This year’s garden yielded two bushel baskets of butternut squash and some enormous pumpkins. We had some of the squash last night and agreed that it is more flavorful than store-bought.

Besides the winter squash, we also grew zucchini over the summer. The harvest was good but not great. Apparently many of the female zuke blossoms got pollinated by the male butternut squashes, producing a bizarre hybrid not fit to eat. Next year we will plant them farther apart.
